Crimp connections consist or a crimp ring, a crimp tool, proper fittings and a go/no-go gauge. When done right, this type of connection is a fast and inexpensive way of connecting PEX. The rings and tools are easily available at many retailers. The only way to tell if a connection is properly done is by using the go/no-go gauge. Put the gauge over the ring and if it doesn't slide all the way than the connection is fine. The downsides of crimp connections are that it can be hard to work with in confined spaces and the connection will loosen with time, which creates leaks.
At the end of the day, both cinch and crimp connections are good. It all comes down to a few factors such as budget, convenience and size of the area being worked on. Remember to always start with a clean, square cut pipe.
